The HFN Management LP is responsible for the management and operations of 6 limited partnership operations (Fisheries, Forestry, Gravel, Hospitality, Lands, and Market).
The various businesses (Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses or “HGB”) are mandated to enhance the economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations and to build careers, jobs and businesses for Huu-ay-aht citizens. The businesses are located in the Bamfield area including the Huu-ay-aht village of Anacla, and throughout the territory of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations. HGB offices are located in Port Alberni and Anacla.
On April 1, 2011, Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN) became self-governing. To manage the relationship between business and politics, the Nation established the HFN Development Corporation and Limited Partnership, an arms-length limited partnership equipped with independent management, a Board of Directors and a mandate to pursue economic development opportunities. Critical to the Nation’s success as a self-governing entity is the development of profitable and sustainable businesses that provide employment opportunities for citizens and revenue to the Nation.
With a recent management change, the Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses is seeking a CEO who has the ability to drive growth and profitability in each of HFN’s businesses, build the capacity of the management team and work with the Nation to provide employment opportunities. With a number of recent acquisitions, the new CEO will join the HGB at a time when the group of businesses is still in its infancy and is evolving its operations and potential. The CEO will need to bring a clear understanding of the purpose and mandate of HGB and a strong sense of vision and leadership in order to move the group of businesses forward. In doing so, the individual will need to understand and recognize the unique relationship between HGB, HFNDC and the Huu-ay-aht First Nations government and administration.
- The ideal candidate is a mature, executive leader with strong business acumen, a strategic mindset and exceptional interpersonal skills. Over their career, the candidate has gained experience as a CEO/COO/VP or GM overseeing the management of multiple, operations or divisions that have parallels to HGB’s businesses (hospitality, retail and resources) and has an interest in, and passion for, understanding the Huu-ay-aht He/she will bring an entrepreneurial mindset that demonstrates their ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities to drive growth and profitability while ensuring that Huu-ay-aht culture, values, principles and lands are respected and that Huu-ay-aht citizens have an ability to develop skills and careers. Building trust and respect with the Board, the Nation and other stakeholders will be critical to the success of the new CEO.
This unique leadership opportunity will provide the new CEO an opportunity to work and live in a beautiful part of British Columbia. The ideal candidate will need to be part of the community and, at a minimum, work full-time in the Bamfield office during the May – October season and be present in Bamfield as required during the fall and winter. This will most likely be at least 50% of the time.
