Meet the faces behind the business arm of Huu-ay-aht First Nations

The Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses has a core group of dedicated staff based out of both its Port Alberni and Anacla offices. Although the staff in the offices are often the faces you see on a regular basis, it takes dozens of other employees to successfully operate the businesses.

Patrick Schmidt

Chief Executive Officer

Patrick Schmidt is the Chief Executive Officer for the Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses. As such, Patrick oversees the operations of the business arm of Huu-ay-aht First Nations. He brings to the job an extensive background in tourism and management work.

Teresa Gagnon, CPA, CGA

Chief Financial Officer

Teresa Gagnon is the Chief Financial Officer with the Huu-ay-aht group of Businesses. In this role, she oversees the three-member finance team, and works closely with both the CEO and the Board of Directors. She and her team handle the bookkeeping, as well as month end financial reports, budgeting, annual planning, and other financial analysis.She reports financial information to the board, the Nation, and external agencies.

Sarah Johnson

Human Resources,

If you have visited Pachena Bay Campground, chances are you have met Sarah Johnson, Human Resources for the Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses. Sarah is a Huu-ay-aht citizen who comes from the House of Ca-ca-tsii-us. She lives in Anacla with her four children (Natalie, Andrew, Katie, and Josh) and husband Andy Clappis. They have called Anacla home for the last 14 years. Her parents are Judy Johnson and Rudy Watts (Tseshaht), and her grandparents are the late Kenny and Joan Johnson (Mack).

Martha Johnson

Assistant Financial Controller

Huu-ay-aht citizen Martha Johnson is the Group of Businesses Assistant Financial Controller. Martha is the granddaughter of late Ken Johnson and Joan Johnson (Mack), and her parents are Judy Johnson of Huu-ay-aht and Rudy Watts of Tseshaht. She has three daughters Arianna, Jenelle, and Kensie, who keep me busy outside the office. Martha has lived in Port Alberni the majority of her adult life and considers Port Alberni home.

Geri Shiels


Geri Shiels is the Accounts Payable and Payroll Clerk with the Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses. Geri brings with her an extensive accounting background. In addition to owning her own bookkeeping business for many years, she worked in an accounting office in Port Alberni for 19 years prior to moving to HGB.

Tracy Walker holds the role of Executive Assistant.
